GDC Qazigund organizes Seminar on ‘Women in Social Transformation’| KNO

Srinagar, Mar 24: Government Degree College Qazigund organized a one-day seminar on the theme ‘Give to Gain: Women in Social Transformation’ in connection with International Women's Day. Adv Abdul Majeed Bhat, MLA, Anantnag West Assembly Constituency was the chief guest of the occasion. In his address, he emphasized the crucial role of women played in social transformation and upliftment of communities. Referring to the towering women leaders such as Indira Gandhi, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Sakina Itoo he highlighted their contributions in politics, finance, health, and education. Emphasizing the local role models, he noted how Kashmiri women have made the entire country proud. “Keeping in view the demand of the students from far-flung areas, a bus would be provided for the college and that the institution’s facilities would be further upgraded,” he said. The chief guest also planted a sapling to mark the beautification initiative of the campus. Snober Altaf,JKAS District Social Welfare Officer Kulgam, and Sharida Rashid Khan (JKCS) who has been recently selected as Judicial Officer were honoured on this occasion for their achievements in their respective fields. Khan shared her own journey, offering valuable tips for competitive examinations and urging students to work on their confidence and overcome self-doubt. Snober Altaf spoke about the need to internalize education and apply it meaningfully in life. “We owe debt to our mothers, who provide us a platform they themselves have never had,” she added. A healthy interactive session followed in which the students freely interacted with the women achievers who shared their professional journeys, challenges, and achievements. Their insightful interaction greatly inspired the students. Earlier the programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Singh, who highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering awareness about gender equity and empowerment. He highlighted the importance of understanding women empowerment holistically through various types of feminisms that subscribe to different needs of women in different cultures and societies. Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Shah convener of the Seminar formally introduced the programme and its objectives. The seminar featured a student session in which five students presented their papers on various dimensions of the theme, reflecting keen academic engagement. Syed Deeba Imtiyaz presented a paper titled “Empowering the Future: Unshackling Women through Education and Equality – A Personal Reflection”, Sheikh Sibbat Zahoor spoke on “Women in Leadership: Shaping Institutions and Public Life”, Uzma Mushtaq Sofi presented her paper titled “Empowered Voices: Inspiring Success Stories of Women from Jammu & Kashmir”, Syed Deeba Imtiyaz presented on “ Empowering the Future: Unshackling Women through Education and Equlity: A Personal Reflection”, Muzamil Rashid Dar presented his paper on “Women Education and National Development ”. Certificates were also distributed among the student presenters for their papers. Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima moderated the proceedings. Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar proposed the formal vote of thanks.
